under his wing

This was a blessed little miracle for me. I actually had a different painting planned, a full length image of the Savior and several children. But after a careful review of my reference, I found a close-up that seemed to capture everything I wanted to say. The tender look of admiration in the child’s eyes… I think it captures the feeling we all want to have, close, comforted, and reassured of His protection and love.

This little girl’s face reminds me of my granddaughter, as she looks so much like her. I bought this picture for her to remind her that she is indeed under “His Wing” and can feel, “close, comforted, and reassured of His protection and love.” What a beautiful piece of artwork. Thank you for sharing your talents and glorifying the Lord. What a blessing!

This picture has touched my heart all year long. What a powerful message it conveys – that each of us is important to our Savior – and that even children can have their own special relationship with Him.

I have a question about using this image. I am a stake Primary president, and one of our ward presidents would like to use this image on the front cover of the program for their sacrament meeting presentation. We don’t want to do anything improper since the picture has a copyright. Can you please advise us?

Thank you so much for sharing your talents with all of us in such a meaningful way this year.

This image has inspired my husband and I in our journey to expand our family, at first I purchased it as a puzzle, to write names of family/friends who have supported our infertility journey, but very recently we were asked to adopt a little girl who looks just like this!
Although I’m unsure where either/both the paths we’re on will lead us I would love to know where/what fabric is draped over her so I can acquire some and either do a follow-up newborn shoot if my IVF is successful, or an adoption photo shoot with the toddler we hope to bring into our family.
Thank you for this painting. It has captured my heart in so many ways.

      Hi Cherrington Family,
Sorry for the delayed reply, but they asked me to reply personally. I actually still have the fabric somewhere. It is a heavy, soft woven cotton that I hand dyed with some acrylic paints to give it a bit of color and texture. It’s not fancy, but it’s an original of sorts so you won’t find it at a store 🙂 The paints were all non-toxic and would be safe for a photo shoot. If you live close by I would be happy to let you borrow it. Let me know… Kindest Regards to you and your new family!

Hi our ward uses these program covers for all our baptisms, and it seems deseret book no longer carries them. Will they again soon?

  • Dutch family says:

Dear Mr. Ward, thank you so much for painting this picture! A friend saw it on Facebook tonight and forwarded it to me. The girl looks just like our daughter at the age she is right now! Actually, when I showed it to her, my daughter thought it was a painting of her and me, but she could’t think of who would have painted it and when. Then she saw Jesus’ hand and knew it was Him. It really encourages her and us that He holds her close. So know that you have blessed a family across the ocean – in The Netherlands.

Hey Jay i love your painting it reminds me of my sister that passed on in christs arms now. So im doing an art analysis on it for a college class and i was wondering what kind of painting technique you used is this an oil painting or a water color or? Thanks would really appreciate it.
